I took a late lunch and headed down to the shop around 4. The parts washer has done its work and the gunk comes off the engine with minimal brushing.

Most of the gunk removed I start to dismantle the head, I notice right away these valves are different the top is just a plate with the keepers the other ones have cups around the springs they also have spacers under the springs. These do not, they only have the top plate holders and springs. Not a big deal but interesting. I now know I need to order new valve seals just incase they are different between these heads. I think they will be since non of these are the dumb umbrella style. I pull the valves from the first cylinder. The exhaust valve is pretty clean but the intake valve is caked with black encrusted gunk.

I do think I will need to do a better job of lapping the exhaust valves. They do have quite a bit of pitting. The intake valves do not have it. I flipped the head over and clean the valve seats, it looks pretty good I then started cleaning off the head gasket residue from the head.

I go all the valves out of the head and remove all the seals and decide to call it a day. I need to do the other head tomorrow and put them back together as soon as I get the lapping done and the new seals installed. Then just a lick of paint and they will be ready to install.

I’m glad I got this table set up it is nice to work on a clean surface.
