Yesterday I managed to achieve what I needed and stop. So today I am not exhausted and was able to change the oil in my brides H3 and work 8hours, and still feel good enough to get down to the shop.

I figure I want to get two things done. The water pump and prep the exhaust manifolds. The water pump looks great, but the gaskets are for a 6 bolt and this is a 4 bolt. Speaking of which, I can’t find the damn things.

I decide to tackle the exhaust manifolds first. Using the trusty, OLD white wheel. I get as much rust off the drivers side manifold as I can while my arms still have feeling. Holding up that 40pound long chunk of iron is very tiring. Due to the bends and heat shield, there are a lot of spots I can’t GE to so I change over to the wire brush on the drill. Once I kill the drill battery I take a break and drink a bottle of water.

One down one to go

Since I am tiring quickly, I switch to looking for the water pump bolts. Since I cleaned off the little table by moving the plastic fantastic 3d printer to behind the man door, I decide to empty the create of parts removed from the truck. I grabbed the cold air intake box and emptied it of all the bags of bolts. I am surprised at how few there are left and that lifts my spirits. Then I realize the water pump bolts are not there. I dig a little more into the crate, and bingo. And as if to prove they are the correct ones, the bag is half full of antifreeze.

I clean them up cut the gaskets to size. Add a smear of orange etc to both sides of the gasket and put some thread sealant on the bolts. They get tightened to only 30 foot pounds, which feels light to me, and I install the small hoses and the bottom radiator hose.

At this point I’m soaking in sweat and chug another bottle of water. I decide to call it a night and be happy with the results. Hopefully I can do more tomorrow.
